Train for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in single-player mode or compete against friends in all-new events (skateboarding, karate, surfing and sport climbing) as well as a huge selection of classic 2D sports and games.

Take on new Olympic disciplines or try your hand at familiar sports in a variety of play styles. For example, immersive motion controls let you use the Joy-Con to mimic actions like throwing a javelin or taking aim in an archery shot!
  
  Sit on the bench with up to three other fellow athletes and do your best to win the gold medal in local multiplayer**, or link up with up to three other players and compete in local wireless multiplayer****. Connect to the internet***** and try to break the Olympic record against up to seven other competitors in a variety of events.

  relive the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in Story Mode! After being sucked into a magical video game console, Mario, Sonic, Bowser and Dr. Eggman find themselves competing in a nostalgic 2D version of the last Olympic Games held in Tokyo.
  
  As Mario and Sonic, explore 1960s Tokyo and compete in classic versions of familiar Olympic events, such as the 100m dash and long jump, as you search for a way back home. Meanwhile, in the present, visit lost venues that will host events in Tokyo 2020 as Luigi, gather your friends, complete minigames and take part in sports featured in the next Olympics to help save Mario, Sonic and the others!
